Note on blog description

Since I have posted an entry after I said "I do," I have changed the description of what my blog is at the top of the site, adding in "and after."

What's a little venue information between friends?

I haven't written since my wedding planning last October but now that I have a friend who is getting married, it's bringing it all back home.
It's fun because I get to share with her information I learned during my wedding venue hunt, beyond what I wrote on my blog (note: she was one of my few visitors when I was regularly blogging). I meticulously (aka, obsessive-compulsively) maintained materials from the various wedding spaces Mr. Scoop and I visited so I was able to hand off a large bag filled with details about Manhattan wedding spots, including party prices and menu options, material not always easily obtainable.
On the home front, Mr. Scoop and I are still married, which is a feat in itself, right? I read somewhere that more than 50 percent of married couples divorce within the first year.
We are planning a trip for what we consider our second honeymoon since our first one was crazy -- missing the plane to St. Martin and finding ourselves at the hotel next to my two sisters and nephew in Puerto Rico.
What's on my mind today is whether or not to change my last name. I have chosen not to and I thought Mr. Scoop didn't care either way, but I have since found out that he actually does.
That's all I've got for now.

Bidding my blog adieu -- at least for now

I feel badly because I have lost interest in maintaining this Web site. After all the reading, writing, thinking and talking about wedding planning, I guess I have grown tired of posting about it.

Since my wedding planning has been crammed into a two-month period, I have been super busy. Wedding date: October 26. At the same time I have been promoted at work, and am getting ready for surgery in a week. Total whirlwind!

Another factor is that my new job is Web editor, so I'm doing the same thing at work that I've been doing here -- and I am getting paid to do it.

So I am going to stop blogging here -- at least for now. I'd like to reserve the right to start up again. I really appreciate the support I have received from my readers.

Should you wish to find out what I'm up to, check out the Web site I oversee: www.therealdeal.com.

Or, feel free to e-mail me at le@therealdeal.com.

Best,

Miss. Scoop

Today's wedding news: World's heaviest man getting hitched

The heaviest man in the world is getting married in Mexico at the end of the month. The groom weighed in at 1,230 in 2006, winning the title of the world's heaviest man in the Guinness Book of World Records. Since then, he has lost about 550 pounds, with the help of his bride.

Today's wedding news: Wedding planning 101

A Staten Island college is offering an eight-week, 40-hour course in wedding planning. The $895 class at Wagner College will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m., starting October 15.

The course will cover topics from gown, to music, to shower, to planner's role, to budget, to etiquette, to vendors, to how to work with the bride and relatives.

A good planner needs "an ability to deal with a wide variety of people; to multi-task; be quick on her feet; have a long fuse, a strong constitution, and a readiness and the flexibility to deal with the unexpected, including health and other emergency situations," said Elaine Deluca of Roslyn-based Exquisite Events New York, one of the two course teachers.

Today's wedding news: DIY flower arrangements

One blog has some creative ideas for DIY flower arrangements:

1. Create floating flower and candle arrangements for the table centerpieces.

2. For the bridal bouquet, tie 10 to 15 white calla lilies together with a large silk ribbon.

3. Decorate the top of the wedding cake with blue hydrangeas.
